Online Learning Designed with Seniors in Mind

Learning doesn’t stop with retirement. In fact, it often becomes more meaningful. Whether you want to stay connected with family, keep your mind active, or simply try something new, the New Mexico State Library offers a wonderful free resource designed especially for older adults: Get Set Up.

Get Set Up is an online learning platform created with seniors in mind, particularly adults age 50 and older. Unlike traditional online courses that rely on long videos or complicated lessons, Get Set Up offers live, interactive classes taught by friendly instructors who understand that learning something new can feel overwhelming at times. Classes are small, welcoming, and encourage questions, discussion, and participation at your own comfort level.

One of the most popular areas on Get Set Up is technology help. Many seniors want to use their phones, tablets, or computers more confidently, but don’t always know where to start. Get Set Up offers step-by-step classes on using smartphones, email, Zoom, Facebook, online banking, and staying safe from scams. Instructors move at a comfortable pace and explain things clearly—no prior tech experience required.

Health and wellness classes are another favorite. Seniors can join gentle stretching sessions, chair yoga, meditation, and classes focused on balance, nutrition, and stress reduction. These sessions support both physical and mental well-being and can be done from the comfort of home.

You can attend as many classes as you like, and there is no pressure to speak or turn on your camera unless you want to.
