Amping up their efforts to get back to the state playoffs and host a first-round tournament game, the Carlsbad Cavemen crushed the Organ Mt. Knights 56-7 in the Cavern City on Friday night, October 16.

The victory pushed CHS’s record up to 5-3 on the year and 2-3 in District 2/6A. With the loss, Organ Mt., who had kicked off the 2026 season with three straight wins and scored four times in a 52-28 loss to Eldorado, fell to 3-5 overall and 0-5 in conference.

Leaning on the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” the Cavemen kept handing the ball off to 6’0”, 190-lb. running back Brock Wright in cruising to the 56-7 victory over the Knights. And why not?

Wright, a bruising running back and quite unbroken, averaged 8 yards per tote on 25 carries for 200 yards and three touchdowns en route to a career-best effort against Organ Mt. With the ball in his hands, he scored on runs of 32, 10, and 36 yards.

Chalking up 200 yards eclipsed his old record of 157 set last year. Getting in the end zone for three touchdowns tied the best effort he’s enjoyed as a Caveman.

“We’ve been waiting for Brock to have a big game like this,” said Cavemen head coach Cale Sanders. “In a dominating performance, he definitely showed us what he’s capable of doing.”

Without the services of Cavemen starting quarterback Marley Munoz, out with an ankle injury, Sanders said Wright’s big game couldn’t have come at a better time.

“For the first time this year, backup junior Bennett Adsero got the start. Brock’s performance helped to take a lot of the pressure off him,” said the Cavemen coach. “Although making a few mistakes, Bennett managed the game and threw the ball well.”

Adsero made good on seven of 10 passing attempts for 95 yards, and after hooking up with CHS’s speedy wideout Jaxson Duarte for a 51-yard score, one touchdown.

Big Night for ‘Cavemen D’

The Knights, no match for the Cavemen, managed just 58 yards passing and a minuscule 33 rushing for 91 total yards on the night.

Not only did the Cavemen defense hold the Knights to just 91 total yards, but they also scored four touchdowns en route to forcing seven Organ Mt. turnovers.

Colton McKibben, CHS’s 6’3”, 230 lb. middle linebacker, scooped up a fumble and ran it back into the end zone from six yards out to account for the defense’s first TD during second-period action.

During fourth-quarter play, safety Lennon Ananins accounted for the second and third, returning back-to-back interceptions, the first from 27 yards out and the second from 32, for touchdowns. Not done yet, McKibben, after running back a pick for 73 yards, got into the end zone once again to account for the fourth.

“Our staff couldn’t have been more proud of our kids’ defensive effort. Holding Organ Mt. to just 91 total yards and scoring four touchdowns was a special performance,” said Sanders. “And as for the four touchdowns, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before. Bet when we check, it’s going to be a school record.”

The Cavemen will be in the City of Crosses on Friday night, October 23, to take on the highly regarded Las Cruces Bulldawgs.
