Cavegirls Wallop the Wildcats 3-0

Despite life’s disappointments that may come your way, good things can still happen to those who don’t quit and keep working hard. For those who might not adhere to this bit of philosophy, maybe they should have a little chat with the Cavegirl volleyball team.

The Cavegirls, unbelievably young this year, have taken the floor as an underdog in just about every match they’ve played in 2025. But, despite the experience they lack, they just keep battling.

On Tuesday night, September 16, in Carlsbad, the Cavegirls dominated the Lovington Wildcats, 3-0, to pick up their second win of the season. With the victory, they stand 2-8 on the year.

In control from the get-go, the Cavegirls upended the Wildcats in straight sets- 25-12, 25-7, 25-14. Not to be outdone, the Cavegirl JVs also toppled Lovington in straight sets 25-19, 25-14.

“The kids did a great job against Lovington. They never got down and played at a very high level all night. Overall, they played a very clean game,” said Cavegirl head coach Taylor Hardison. “We especially got good performances from Brinley Brantley and Abigail Chavez, our top two servers.”

“All of our girls were making plays against the Wildcats,” added assistant Cavegirl coach Rylan Gonzalez. “It was really nice to get to watch them relax and just play.”

The Cavegirls will be in Las Cruces for games on September 19-20. On Friday, they’ll take on the 7-0 Las Cruces Bulldawgs, and on Saturday, the 2-6 Organ Mt. Knights.

Scheduled times for the CHS at Las Cruces Bulldawg clash are 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Game times for the Cavegirl at Organ Mt. contest have been set for 11 a.m. and noon. The JVs will take the floor first in both games.

Cavemen, Cavegirl Soccer

Carlsbad High School soccer fans will get a special treat on Saturday, September 20, as both the Cavemen and Cavegirls host the Organ Mountain Knights.

The Cavemen will open up play on Saturday. At 11 a.m., the JVs will take the field, followed by the varsity at 1 p.m.

Carlsbad High will enter the match at 2-8 on the year; Organ Mt. is currently 5-3.

On the girls’ side of the day’s double header, the Cavegirl JVs will square off with the Lady Knights at 3 p.m. The varsity is scheduled to take the field at 5 p.m.

The Cavegirls, as of Tuesday, September 15, are 2-7-2 on the season. The Lady Knights are 6-2.

CHS Soccer Updates

The road for this year’s young Cavemen and Cavegirl soccer teams continues to be a rough one.

Since defeating the Goddard Rockets, 3-1, for their second win of the season, the 2-8 Cavemen have dropped games to Santa Teresa, 3-1, Lovington, 5-0, and Las Cruces, 2-0. (CHS’s boys battled the Artesia Bulldogs on Thursday night, September 18. The score will be posted in the September 26 edition of the Carlsbad Local.)

The 2-7-2 Cavegirls, battling hard each week, have fallen to Los Alamos, 2-0, Farmington, 1-1 (tiebreaker), Sandia Prep, 0-0 (tiebreaker), and Artesia, 2-0.
