Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO) announced this year’s award of $90,000 in grants to 18 nonprofit organizations serving Eddy and Lea counties, a $15,000 increase over last year.

The grants were presented during a reception ceremony celebrating the fourth year of SIMCO’s employee-driven charitable giving program. Since its inception, the SIMCO Employee Investment Advisory Committee has distributed approximately $300,000 to local nonprofit organizations across the region, demonstrating the company’s sustained commitment to community investment.

“Our employees bring their time, care, and thoughtfulness to every decision this committee makes, and our local nonprofits are meeting some of the most pressing needs in our communities every day,” said Ryan Flynn, SIMCO’s Deputy Program Manager.

“SIMCO is proud to call Eddy and Lea counties home, and we are proud to invest in the people and organizations that make these communities thrive,” he said.

The committee is comprised of 11 non-managerial employees who have been recognized for their exceptional leadership qualities by both managers and peers. At the beginning of each grant cycle, the committee identifies funding priorities after an assessment of the most pressing community needs and then reviews each proposal for its potential impact, organizational capacity, and alignment with those priorities.

Individual grants this year ranged from $2,000 to $8,000. Nine awards will serve Eddy County, five will serve Lea County, and four will serve both counties. Ten projects support public health and safety; eight support children, youth, and families; five address food security; and three focus on arts, culture, and community vitality.

The 18 grant recipients are: CARC Inc., Carlsbad Area Art Association, Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, Carlsbad Community of Hope Center, Carlsbad Literacy Program, Carlsbad Transitional Housing, Cissy’s Food Ministry, Eddy County CASA Auxiliary, Encore Entertainment Inc., Future Innovators Academy, Helen Houston’s Justice House, My Power, Palmer Drug Abuse Program of Lea County, Permian Basin Counseling and Guidance, Southeast New Mexico Community Action Corporation, Southeast New Mexico Search and Rescue, United Way of Eddy County, and Weekend Hunger Initiative (WHI) Hobbs.
