“Inspired by Science” founder Deena Antiporda, along with her physicist son, Logan, staged fabulous feats at Stevens Inn on Friday, August 22, for the Carlsbad Heights Lions luncheon.

Via homemade devices like a vertical wind tunnel and (boxlike) earthquake simulator, Deena bedazzled adults with how paper helicopters rise and wooden block walls tumble.

The group also inspected a five-circuit electrical tinkering kit and a wee solar car designed to drive under direct sunlight (but alas, poop out in shade). They enjoyed seeing (but didn’t get to taste from) a pizza box solar oven capable of heating a s’more.

Deena’s “Inspired by Science” offers a four-day STEM summer camp at SENM-C for preteens. Most recently, she hosted 104 students, nearly a quarter of whom attended via need-based scholarships.

Thus, Deena is ever grateful to local industries, individuals, and sponsoring groups like Carlsbad Heights Lions. The group presented a $1,000 check toward her endeavors.
