The Cavemen baseball team got off to a rocky 1-2 start on the season, following play in their season-opener at the Cleveland Storm Invitational in Rio Rancho.

Carlsbad opened the tourney up with a tough 3-2 loss to Piedra Vista on Thursday, February 26, but bounced back on Friday, February 27, to register their first win of 2026, a rousing 19-3 victory over Los Lunas.

However, CHS’s victory lap was a short one. On Saturday, February 28, the tournament host, Cleveland Storm, downed CHS’s hardballers, 9-1.

Back in action this weekend, March 5-7, and much closer to home, Carlsbad High will participate in the Hobbs Round Robin Invitational.

According to MaxPreps, the Cavemen opened Hobbs Tournament play against the Farmington Scorpions on Thursday, March 5. On Friday, March 6, they’re scheduled to take on Piedra Vista at noon, and on Saturday, March 7, they play the Cleveland Storm at 10 a.m.

CHS will be in the City of Crosses on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 12-14, as a participant in the Las Cruces Bulldawg Invitational.

Carlsbad prep baseball fans won’t get an opportunity to watch the Cavemen play at home until Thursday, March 19, when they host the Cavemen Round Robin Baseball Tournament. The tournament will run through Saturday, March 21.

Six teams will take the field during Carlsbad’s three-day baseball fest. Along with the host, Carlsbad, will be Hobbs, Organ Mountain, Mayfield, Cathedral, and R.O.S. (Rose of Sharon) out of El Paso.

The Cavemen will take the field for their tournament opener on Thursday, March 19, at 5 p.m., against Organ Mt.
