Good news just keeps flowing via the CHS tennis program. On Friday and Saturday, March 27-28, at the Amarillo Relays, the Cavemen grabbed two first-place finishes, and the Cavegirls one, in singles play.

Claiming singles titles for the Cavemen were Lucas Bluth, who went 4-0 in gold bracket competition, and Sean Erosido, who went 4-0 in silver bracket play. Cavegirl Myka Char also went 4-0 on her way to claiming her singles title.

As if that weren't enough, both the boys' and girls' teams put up some pretty impressive numbers in doubles play.

The Cavemen's doubles team of Steven Pham and Alex Burns went 3-1 to place third, while Cavegirls Charise Young and Jena Walker teamed up to register a victory in the consolation championship with an overall record of 3-1.

"It was pretty windy and cold in Amarillo. Despite the bad weather conditions, Lucas, Sean, and Myka all played well," said CHS assistant coach Diamond Morrill. "They kept a level head, played smart, and worked hard to control each point during all the bad weather.

"As for Jena and Charise, they were able to stay aggressive at the net to take control of the points," said Morrill. "Following an opening-round loss, this strategy helped them to continue moving forward throughout the tournament."

The CHS tennis teams will be back on the court in Clovis on April 14 to open District 4/5A play.
