Carlsbad High’s Lucas Bluth, on a mission at the Longhorn Tennis Invitational, made a lot of noise in Amarillo on Friday and Saturday, February 27-28.

A senior, Bluth posted an unblemished 4-0 record at the Texas meet to capture this year’s tournament singles title.

“Lucas played well and was very consistent on the court,” said CHS assistant coach Diamond Morrill. “He was able to put some pace on the ball, while staying consistent, which is key to playing at higher levels.

“He has been working hard all season, not only developing his own skills, but also helping the team compete at a higher level,” she said. “Around here, we’re all very proud of what he was able to accomplish.”

At the Longhorn Invite, participants were entered in singles, doubles, or mixed doubles competition.

“We looked at the Longhorn Invitational as an opportunity for our kids to just have a lot of fun in a much warmer setting,” she said. “Overall, our kids played well and were able to work on the corrections and skills we practiced on this past week.”

The Cavemen and Cavegirls will compete in the Hobbs Eagles Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7.
