The Story Behind Halagueno Arts Park

Just a short walk from the library sits one of Carlsbad’s most unique and creative outdoor spaces—Halagueno Arts Park. While many people enjoy visiting the park to see the sculptures, murals, and performances, fewer may know the story of how this vibrant space came to life.

The park began as a vision to transform an empty and underused lot into a place where art, culture, and community could come together. Local leaders, artists, and volunteers recognized that public spaces have the power to inspire creativity and bring people together. Rather than leaving the area unused, the idea emerged to create a park dedicated to the arts—something that would celebrate the creativity of the region while providing a gathering place for residents and visitors alike.
