My professional journey has been defined by building economic opportunities across New Mexico. As Executive Director of the Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD), I’ve led complex negotiations, stabilized organizational finances, and built new frameworks for business attraction and retention. I spearheaded a modernized organizational model, advanced site readiness for industrial growth, and positioned Carlsbad in state and national conversations on energy, infrastructure, and nuclear innovation. I have focused on building the networks and people who make Carlsbad lead and stand out across New Mexico. By overhauling CDOD’s membership structure, we established a stronger foundation for local business engagement. By convening roundtables with employers, workforce leaders, and state officials, I’ve elevated community challenges, such as housing, childcare, and infrastructure — into actionable priorities for decision-makers. And by celebrating milestones through our Annual Dinner and “CDOD After Dark,” I’ve showcased the pride, resilience, and forward-looking spirit of Carlsbad’s business community.

Sammy Lopez, Jr., a student at Southeast New Mexico College, has been named a member of the 2026 Coca-Cola Academic Team and will receive a $1,300 scholarship.
