The Carlsbad Downtown Lions held their end of the year party on June 21st. Several awards were presented by President Kay Doss including Officer and Board Members recognition and attendance awards. Four individuals were presented the distinguished service plaque. The Core 4 spent weekends working in horrible conditions and a very depressing environment. They went to devastated areas in Ruidoso and cleaned up properties that were affected by the fires and the floods. Pictured with their plaques are Frankie Davis, Melissa Washburn, Johnny Washburn, and Gemma Ferguson. AJ Alford was presented with a progressive Melvin Jones award and outgoing President Kay Doss was presented with a Life Membership in the Carlsbad Downtown Lions Club.

Carlsbad Elks Lodge #1558 announces a first-place win for Carlsbad student Kobe Morton, in the 10 to 11 age group at the New Mexico State level in Albuquerque, the third competition of five that leads to the National Elks Hoop Shoot competition to be held in Chicago, Ill.
