Judy Brakeman, a Corporal with the Carlsbad Police Department, has been recognized as a Devon Energy Hometown Hero. The award honors the dedication and expertise of emergency responders, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs, 911 dispatchers and city employees.

Corporal Judy Brakeman exemplifies the spirit of selfless service and community dedication that defines a Devon Hometown Hero. Through her years of service with the Carlsbad Police Department, she has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect, serve and uplift those around her. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring young officers or engaging with local residents, Corporal Brakeman leads with compassion, integrity and unwavering resolve.

“Judy has always gone above and beyond, not because she has to, but because that’s just who she is,” said Adrian Rodriguez, who nominated Brakeman for the honor. “She leads with compassion and sets an example of service that inspires everyone she meets. The community of Carlsbad is stronger because of Judy.”

Beyond her role in law enforcement, Judy has made a lasting impact in local government, inspiring others, especially women and young people, to take an active role in shaping their communities. Her actions reflect a deep commitment to creating a safer Carlsbad.
