Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) is proud to recognize its Mountain Lion Student of the Month, an honor established to celebrate students who embody the college’s core values.

The Mountain Lion Student of the Month program was created to promote a culture of excellence, encourage active student engagement, and recognize outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, and community involvement. All currently enrolled SENMC students in good academic standing are eligible for nomination.

For the month of October, SENMC is pleased to announce Rita Mariana Moreno Urquidi as the award recipient. Rita Mariana was nominated by her professor, Zane Biebelle, in recognition of her dedication, hard work, and contributions to the SENMC community.

In her nomination, Professor Zane Biebelle said “Rita embodies the values of SENMC. As a CLIFF Scholar, she has resourcefully started a new support group for families with disabilities. She began this project in Ms. Wang’s Early Childhood Education class last semester, and she has shown persistence in continuing her work.”

“Her first meeting drew around 20 people to the support group this month. Her passion for inclusion, creating spaces for families to share community support, is amazing. Beyond that, Rita strives for excellence as a CLIFF Scholar, serves as the student representative in the Diversity committee, and shows resilience and tenacity.”

This recognition initiative reflects SENMC’s ongoing commitment to highlighting student success and fostering a strong, engaged campus community.
