“It was especially a big day for Josiah Waddle,” continued Sims. “Besides it being his birthday, he was also responsible for us winning the tie breaker with Clovis.”

In an event of a tie teams use the times turned in by their sixth-place runner to determine who wins. Waddle’s winning time was 18:51.

With a watered down lineup, the Cavegirls placed sixth at the Roswell meet.

“In order to get a week of rest and quality training, before we start running some of our larger and championship meets,” said the CHS coach. “A few of our top girls decided not to run at the Pecos Valley Invitational.”

On Saturday morning, Oct. 4, the Cavemen and Cavegirls will host the Carlsbad Invitational. It will be the only time this season that CHS will perform at home. Competition is set to get underway at 9 a.m.

“As of right now, we have 8 teams registered for our home meet. However, in order to prioritize training and recovery for later this season, many of our varsity runners will be sitting out, or resting for this meet,” said Sims. “But some of our top JV runners will be making their debut at the varsity level. For them it will be a good test. I think they’re going to surprise themselves.”

“We plan to have both boys and girls varsity teams at full strength by the time we compete in Artesia,” he said. “By then we’ll be racing our entire district at full strength.”
