Students from Carlsbad Prep Academy, Gracie Nettles, Paxton Rasmussen, Sophia Stanton, Maxie Alverdi, Sasha Jimenez, Ava Mitchell, and Samara Gonzalez, proudly represented the Carlsbad community by participating for the first time in the regional National Civics Bee, an annual competition designed to inspire young Americans to engage in civics and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The National Civics Bee challenges students to respond to a three-question essay prompt proposing ideas to improve their communities. From these essays, judges select finalists to advance to regional competitions, where students compete for trophies, prizes, and recognition.

The local competition, sponsored by the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, Daniels Fund, and Mewbourne Oil, was held in person on April 26 in Hobbs. Carlsbad Prep Academy students Samara Gonzalez and Sasha Jimenez earned top honors and will advance to the State Finals, which will take place this summer in Albuquerque.

At the State Finals, students will again showcase their civic knowledge and leadership abilities for a chance to win additional prizes. One outstanding finalist from each state will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., to compete at the National Championship in the fall.

Carlsbad Prep Academy congratulates all of the participants for their hard work and dedication and wishes its advancing students the very best as they represent the Carlsbad community at the State Finals.
