Locals may have seen the 7 Brew Crew at Walter Gerrells Performing Arts and Exhibition Center during the Inker’s Tattoo Expo held March 14-16 or may be curious about the drive-thru coffee shop that mysteriously popped up on the corner of West Pierce and North Thomas St. It has been confirmed, 7 Brew Drive Thru Coffee will be opening soon at 1102 W. Pierce St. There are two dates to remember: March 24 and March 29.

The manager of the coffee stand, Gillian McFadin, shared the details. “We are planning to open on the 24th. We are doing community hours throughout that week, giving out some free small drinks to the community. We really want to spread our menu and show Carlsbad what we are all about,” she said.

Community hours, when a free small drink will be given to present customers, are from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. According to a flyer promoting the opening events, this will run from Monday, March 24, through Friday, March 28.

“On Saturday, the 29th, 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with the purchase of a large drink, we’re going to give out a free T-shirt,” said Gillian. “It’s a really big deal for our company. We call it our ‘Swag to Carlsbad.’ It’s an all-day thing while our supplies last,” she said.

Gillian provided information about 7 Brew, confirming that the local stand is a franchise. “We actually originated out of Arkansas. It’s really cool. Our buildings are built in Arkansas. They ship it down here, and they piece it together for us. We get to open up pretty fast,” she said.

The owners of the Carlsbad franchise are Dusty Womble and Sky Capital, said Andrew Davalos, Director of Hiring and Training for 7 Brew.

“We do a whole week of training for our staff members,” said Gillian, explaining that traveling trainers come from stands throughout the nation and stay for about a month to train the staff and get them ready. The Carlsbad franchise currently has 60 employees, she said.

About the menu, Gillian said, “It consists of drinks. We do our coffee, our energies, fizz; we do our triple 7s, which is six shots, it’s original. We were founded off of our original seven drinks.” The 7 Originals include Blondie, Brunette, Smooth 7, White Chocolate Mocha, Cinnamon Roll, German Chocolate, and Sweet & Salty.

“My favorite is the Blondie, but we love our energy drinks too; those are very popular and, of course, blended, as well as our smoothies,” said Gillian.

The coffee stand is primarily a drive-thru, Gillian said. “We don’t have a sit-down area, but we do take walk-ups, so anybody is welcome to walk up to our doors, and we’ll get their order taken accordingly. People have places to go, so we want to get them out of here pretty quick.”

Gillian said her personal favorite thing about her stand is the culture that they are bringing to Carlsbad. “We have a great team. Most of the time, we’re all super peppy and happy, and very energized. It creates a really great atmosphere to work in. I definitely like the fast pace of it all and helping my team to learn new things,” she said.

“I definitely think what sets us apart from other coffee shops is we’re not just selling coffee; we’re selling an experience. We like to connect with our customers and give that face-to-face interaction. We try to make every interaction personal to each customer. We are selling coffee—and it’s great coffee—but at the end of the day, we want to give back to our community and reach out to them as much as possible and get those connections,” said Gillian.
