The United Way of Eddy County’s Ninth Annual Day of Caring will be held on September 17. Local businesses and industry partners will again pick up a paintbrush, a shovel, or a pair of gloves and make a difference by assisting an area nonprofit with a wide variety of projects.

This year’s event is being sponsored by Mewbourne Oil Company, Permian Resources, ConocoPhillips, Eddy County, Carlsbad Medical Center, Artesia General Hospital, and the Con Alma Health Foundation.

Kickoff events will be hosted at the Boys and Girls Club’s Event Center in Carlsbad and at the new Artesia Recreation Center. A simultaneous broadcast on the United Way’s Facebook page will start the event. Volunteers will then head out to tackle projects across Eddy County.

More than 250 volunteers are expected to tackle 19 different projects this year. Efforts include painting at both Eddy County CASA offices, cleanup at Carlsbad’s Playground on the Pecos, touch-ups at the Artesia Public Library, and story time at Loving Municipal Schools. Corporate partners, small businesses, nonprofits, and first responders have all signed on to paint, clean, and repair.

“Day of Caring represents everything that is great about Eddy County,” said Kyle Marksteiner, executive director of the United Way of Eddy County. “It’s hundreds of individuals cooperating to do so much good for the community.”

Participating nonprofits include Carlsbad Transitional Housing and Homeless Shelter, Artesia MainStreet, the Artesia Arts Council, the Carlsbad Community Anti-Drug Gang Coalition, SNMCAC, Oasis Women’s Services, Eddy County CASA, CARC, Carlsbad MainStreet, LifeHouse, the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, Carlsbad MainStreet, the City of Artesia, the City of Carlsbad, and the United Way of Eddy County.

“Mewbourne Oil Company values the opportunity to work side by side with fellow community members,” said Meghan Mooney, Community Relations Coordinator for Mewbourne Oil Company. “The nonprofits of Eddy County provide invaluable services that strengthen our entire community, and it is important to support their efforts and give back whenever possible.

“The United Way of Eddy County team also coordinates some of the region’s most impactful projects, and we are grateful for the many opportunities they create for community involvement,” she added. “Their leadership makes it easy for organizations like ours to get engaged and make a meaningful difference.”

In addition to sponsor teams, participating volunteer groups include the Boys and Girls Club,  Affirming Heart, CVE, Chevron Oil Company, Devon Energy, ExxonMobil, Flogistix, Royal Services, Bucks Refrigeration, Haven of Hope, Kinetik Energy Services, 2 Stone Construction, Carlsbad High School Business Professionals of America, Intrepid Potash, Kyvek Services, SIMCO, and the office of Rep. Henry and Sen. Townsend.
