The United Way of Eddy County's Eighth Annual Day of Caring will be held on September 18. Local businesses and industry partners will again pick up a paint brush, shovel, or gloves and make a difference by assisting an area nonprofit with a wide variety of projects.

This year's event is being sponsored by Mewbourne Oil Company. P&R Enterprises is sponsoring the event hats, while Carlsbad Medical Center and Artesia General Hospital are generously providing meals. ConocoPhillips is assisting with PPE, and the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad is hosting the kickoff in Carlsbad. Artesia General Hospital is also hosting the Artesia kickoff.

Last year, more than 200 volunteers assisted at Day of Caring Projects at 11 nonprofit agencies. This year, more than 250 volunteers are expected to complete 17 projects across Eddy County. This year, Day of Caring projects also include painting cinder block walls for the City of Artesia, completing the construction of a disc golf course near Six-Mile Dam, and assisting with the United Way's monthly food distribution in Loving.

"In many ways, Day of Caring really represents everything that the United Way of Eddy County stands for," said Kyle Marksteiner, executive director of the United Way of Eddy County. "It's a highly collaborative effort with a focus on successfully completing projects. We get the jobs done."

A simultaneous broadcast on the United Way's Facebook page will start the event. Volunteers will then head out to tackle projects across Eddy County.

Participating nonprofits include Haven of Hope, Carlsbad Transitional Housing and Homeless Shelter, Oasis Women's Services, CASA, the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, CARC, Carlsbad MainStreet, LifeHouse, the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, Written in Red, the Carlsbad Community of Hope, the Carlsbad Literacy Program, Carlsbad MainStreet, the Faith Hope Love Foundation, and the United Way of Eddy County. Lunch will be provided during the "shift change" between morning and afternoon work.

"Mewbourne Oil Company enjoys working hands-on alongside other community members more," said Meghan Mooney, Mewbourne Oil Company Community Relations Coordinator. "The nonprofits of Eddy County provide invaluable services to the entire county, and it's important to support them and pay it forward. Lastly, United Way of Eddy County staff coordinate some of the greatest projects in the region, so it's important to thank them for making it so easy to get involved."

In addition to title sponsor Mewbourne, participating teams include the Boys and Girls Club, ConocoPhillips, Affirming Heart, CVE, Carlsbad Rotary Club, Chevron Oil Company, Devon Energy, Eddy County, ExxonMobil, Flogistix, Intrepid Potash, Kyvek, Permian Resources, P&R Enterprise LLC, Royal Services, SIMCO, and the office of Representative Jonathan A. Henry and Senator James G. Townsend.
