Swimmers Qualify Four More Events for State

The CHS swim team placed third at the District 3/4A swim meet held in Artesia on Saturday, February 7.

CHS head coach Samantha Segura was more than happy with the effort she got from her team.

“Our swimmers performed phenomenally at District, with many dropping time and several earning new personal bests. We are incredibly proud of every member of this team and the work they’ve put in to get here,” said Segura. “Now, for the next two weeks, our focus will shift to preparing our state qualifiers to race on February 20–21 at the state meet in Albuquerque.”

At the District meet, CHS qualified athletes for state in four events, two individual and two relays.

In girls’ competition, the Cavegirls’ Olivia Jang qualified for state in the 100 Breast, with a time of 1:15.99, and the 100 Free, with a time of 59.02.

The Cavegirls’ 400 yard Free Relay team also qualified. The team, comprised of Olivia Jang, Taitum Lindsey, Sofia Escorial, and Paisley Johnson, placed second, with a time of 4:15.93.

In boys’ competition, the Cavemen’s 400 yard Free Relay team qualified for the Big Dance after posting a time of 3:39.34. The relay team comprised Samuel Vega, Benjamin Jang, Constantine Gonzales, and Kason Longbine.

The Cavemen’s Benjamin Jang and Sam Vega, as well as the Cavegirls’ 200 Free Relay team, also turned in exceptional performances.

Jang grabbed the 100 yard breaststroke championship with a first-place finish, while Vega placed third. The Cavegirls’ 200 Free Relay team also drew praise with a third-place finish. The relay squad included Sofia Escorial, Tiny Martinez, Olivia Jang, and Taitum Lindsey.

Logging high point honors for CHS were double-digit scorers Benjamin Jang with 18, Olivia Jang with 12, and Samuel Vega with 10.

Also scoring points were Kason Longbine with four, Constantine Gonzales with three, Taitum Lindsey with three, Mason Shott with three, and Bentley Fine with one.

CHS 2025-26 Individual State Qualifiers:

Olivia Jang, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 100 Breast, 100 Free.

Benjamin Jang, 100 breast, 200 IM, 100 Free.

Samuel Vega, 100 Fly, 100 back.

CHS 2025-26 State Qualifying Relay Teams:

200 Boys medley relay: Samuel Vega, Benjamin Jang, Constantine Gonzales, and Kason Longbine.

200 Boys free relay: Kason Longbine, Santiago Gallardo, Bennett Mitchell, and Constantine Gonzales.

400 Boys free relay: Samuel Vega, Santiago Gallardo will sub for Benjamin Jang, Constantine Gonzales, and Kason Longbine.

400 Girls free relay: Olivia Jang, Taitum Lindsey, Sofia Escorial, and Paisley Johnson.
