Cavegirls collide with Cibola for state title By Don Eskins The Cavegirl soccer team kept their dream -an opportunity to capture a second straight Class 5A state championship -alive with a 1-0 victory over the La Cueva Bears during a state semi-final round playoff game at Ralph Bowyer Caveman Stadium on Wednesday. The Cavegirls will get that opportunity this afternoon (Friday Nov. 5) when they take on the top seeded Cibola Cougarsin this year's New Mexico Class 5A State Championship final in Albuquerque. After a scoreless first half the Cavegirl’s Abbey Dugan, on a pass from her sister Alexa, drove the ball into the net at the 27.00 minute mark of the second half to put Carlsbad High out in front 1-0.With the Cavegirl defense stepping upall night, it proved to be all the Cavegirls would need as they went on to grab the 1-0 win and a trip to Nov. 5’sstate championship matchup with the Cibola Cougars. Especially stepping up big for the Cavegirls on defense was goalkeeper Corrine Bradford, who made several saves throughout the game. The Cougars, 16-2-1, earned their right to compete in this year's championship final with a 3-1 victory over the Hobbs Eaglesin Class 5A's other semi-final round game, held in Albuquerque. Friday’s state championship game will take place at the University of New Mexico Soccer Complex’s Main Stadium at 3 p.m. The Cavegirl's Road to StateEn route to this year's Class 5A state championship game the Cavegirls have posted a phenomenal20-2 record. They also wrote their names into the CHS record book by winning the District 5A title for the third straight time.For their efforts this fall,the New Mexico Activities Association selected the third ranked Cavegirls as the No. 2 seed in this year's state tournament.After drawing a first round bye, the Cavegirls rallied to top the Volcano Vista Hawks 1-0 in state quarter-final round action.With the score tied at 0-0 freshman Abbey Dugan drilled a 28 yard direct kick over the head of
