Caveman Marley Munoz and Cavegirl Cassie Bielston grabbed gold medals for first-place finishes in the triple jump competition at the Clovis Wildcat Relays on Friday, April 17.

Munoz, with a mark of 45’0”, outdistanced runner-up Cael Houghtaling of Artesia, who posted a 43’6” mark, by one and a half feet.

Bielston, with a mark of 35’9”, edged her opponent, Hobbs’ Jordyn Mendoza, 35’8”, by just one inch.

After posting a leap of 15’10.5”, Cassie also picked up a bronze medal for finishing third in the long jump.

“I couldn’t have been more proud of a couple of kids; both jumped great!” said CHS head coach Charles Millar. “Both had huge PRs and were able to win in very competitive fields.”

Lennon Ananins and Braden Florez medaled for CHS in the javelin. Ananins, with a throw of 147’4”, collected a silver medal for a second-place finish. Florez, with a throw of 140’4.25”, picked up a bronze medal for placing third.

Caveman Bryan King also had a big day in Clovis.

Although placing 12th, he posted a 15.78 in the 110 hurdles, good enough to qualify for state. The state qualifying mark for 2026 in Class 5A track and field is 15.86. In 2025, King placed sixth at state.

Next up for the CHS thinclads is the Bob Sepulveda Invitational in Alamogordo on Friday, April 24. Competition is set to get underway at noon.

“The weather was not very cooperative in Clovis. It really impacted our marks in both the field and running events,” said Millar. “Hopefully, the weather will be better and more cooperative in Alamogordo to assist us in our effort to get some great marks there.”
