Lindsey Carter Cards an Ace at Roswell Invite

The Cavegirls, led by senior Lindsey Carter’s 86, placed fourth overall at the recent Roswell High School Golf Invitational. Carlsbad’s girls carded a team score of 385, just one stroke behind the third-place Clovis Wildcats (384) and six behind the runner-up Goddard Rockets (379).

Rounding out Carlsbad’s scorecard were Haddi May, 90; Averee Padilla, 103; and Hailey Carter, 106.

The Alamogordo Tigers, who posted a team low of 365, grabbed first-place honors in the 10-team field.

The tournament, CHS’s inaugural for 2025, took place in the Alien City on Tuesday, April 1.

The Cavemen, paced by Jeremiah Raney’s 89, finished seventh at the Roswell meet. Also contributing to the CHS effort were Chevey Thompson, 90; Robbie Rodriguez, 95; Rev Valenzuela, 98; and Anthony Hernandez, 103.

Alamogordo, with a 325, placed first in the boys’ division. Goddard, with 331, finished second, and the Artesia Bulldogs, with a 335, placed third.

“We saw a lot of good things from both our boys and girls in Roswell,” said CHS head golf coach Brian Jones. “Although we did struggle some, the season is just beginning, and those kids who did experience some difficulties will undoubtedly bounce back.”

Making the most noise at the Roswell Invite was Lindsey Carter. Besides recording an 86 to place second, she also carded a hole-in-one.

“It was a very special day for Lindsey. At Spring River’s 13th hole, a par 3, 100-yard hole over water, she hit a gap wedge about six feet behind the pin,” said Jones. “With backspin, it rolled right into the cup. It was a beautiful shot!”

Next up for the CHS linksters will be the Artesia High School Invitational. The meet will take place on Monday, April 7. Play is set to begin at 9 a.m.
