Eddy County Moves to .Gov Domain

Eddy County has adopted a new domain name: eddycountynm.gov. A .gov website address signals to residents that they are dealing with their official county government. Unlike .com, .org, or .us domains, .gov domains are available only to verified government entities.

The county’s new domain name also means that email addresses for all county personnel will change from the prior format of [staff name]@co.eddy.nm.us to the new format of [staff name]@eddycountynm.gov.

Residents who navigate to the old Eddy County web address will be automatically forwarded to the new domain. Likewise, emails sent to old Eddy County email addresses will be automatically forwarded to the new version of each email address. Auto-forwarding will continue for a period of several months to allow the public time to adapt to the county’s new contact information.

The U.S. Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), a branch of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, confirms the identity and eligibility of each organization that applies for a .gov domain before approving the assignment of a new domain name. For any approved organization, .gov domain registration fees are waived, making this domain a cost-effective choice for government entities and taxpayers.

In addition to enhancing security and underscoring the organization’s credibility, the county’s move to a .gov domain also improves the website’s search visibility, supports regulatory standards and mandates, and consolidates all county offices and departments – including the Eddy County Office of Emergency Management and Eddy County Fire and Rescue - under a single domain for easier public navigation and access.
