The Terri Able Carlsbad Community Kitchen and volunteers have once again successfully shared their dedication and hard work to serve our community during the holidays; we had a great turnout providing 50-plus meals to patrons in Carlsbad.

December 5 is recognized as “International Volunteer Day,” where we celebrate volunteers who devote their time and energy to serve in their communities. The Carlsbad Community Kitchen has just that, a group of volunteers selflessly serving with love and compassion. The groups are led by Elba Ferrall and Sam Butterfield.

We provide not only a hot meal for our neighbors in need but also a welcoming smile to a safe place where you are respected, seen, and valued. Along with that, we have short but sweet conversations with words of encouragement and some direction to local resources. When time allows, I love to take part in volunteering at the kitchen; it gives me a feeling of fulfillment, gratitude, and connection. I am blessed to be part of a committed group of volunteers. We laugh, learn, and work together in organizing and preparing meals; every role matters.

Currently, they are only able to open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 11 a.m. to noon. We need additional volunteers to continue serving our community. Any act of kindness and service makes an impact. I encourage anyone who would like to come and be part of helping our neighbors and experience a meaningful time of service. Just show up. We are located at 402 S. Alameda St., corner of Alameda and Tansil streets. Thank you.
