CHS Thinclads Compete at Lovington Invite

The Cavemen and Cavegirls thin clads will compete at the Lovington Invitational on Friday, May 2. Events will get underway at 3 p.m.

The Lovington Invitational will serve as CHS’s final pre-district tune-up of the season. On May 9, the District 4/5A tournament will take place in Hobbs.

On Friday, April 25, both the Cavemen and Cavegirls competed in the Bob Sepulveda Invitational in Alamogordo. Overall, the CHS boys, with 25 points, placed seventh. Carlsbad’s girls, with 30 points, placed eighth.

For the Cavegirls, Atria Wells continued her dominance in the shot put. Wells tossed the shot 39’8” to place first and pick up a gold medal in the event. Abbey Dugan, in the 800 meter run, and CHS’s 1600 Sprint Medley relay team, grabbed bronze medals for placing third.

Dugan clocked in in the 800 meter run at 2:31.25. The CHS girls’ 1600 Meter Relay team, comprised of 1) Nicki Abeyta, 2) Norah Gallagher, 3) Deandra Balcazar, and 4) Abbey Dugan, traveled the distance with a time of 4:37.56.

Bryan King, who collected a silver medal for his second-place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles, paced the CHS boys’ effort. King turned in a time of 16.21.

Earning bronze medals for third-place finishes were Isiaha Almodovar, with a throw of 124’05” in the Discus, and the CHS 2x200 Relay team, who turned in a time of 1:32.56. Running the event for the Cavemen were 1) Jaden Harper, 2) Bobby Castaneda, 3) Eaven Leos, and 4) Colton McKibben.
