The Carlsbad High School swim team recently competed at the Pecos Invitational in Pecos, TX. The meet took place on Saturday, November 15.

Overall, the Cavegirls placed sixth, and the Cavemen seventh, in a field of 12.

Olivia Jang paced the Cavegirl effort. Olivia recorded a third-place finish in the 200 free and finished fourth in the 100 fly.

Pacing the Cavemen was Benjamin Jang. Benjamin placed third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free.

“This wasn’t one of our strongest meets, but it gave us the chance to put a lot of things into perspective. But the challenges they faced, coming into the meet, ultimately prepared them to compete, and they never let anything break their spirit,” said CHS swim coach Sam Segura.

“Sometimes, as their coach, my biggest job is reminding our swimmers to stay positive. Overall, though, it turned into a good meet and a valuable learning experience, especially for some of our newer swimmers.”

Next up for the CHS swimmers is the B. Reed Invitational in Hobbs on Saturday, December 6.
