CHS Hosts Cavemen Baseball Classic

Round II of the Carlsbad Cavemen Classic will get underway on Friday, March 21. The Classic, which opened play on Thursday, March 20, will run through Saturday, March 22. All games will take place at the Tom Forni Cavemen Corral.

Six teams will compete in this year’s round-robin event. Taking the field will be Las Cruces High 5-1, El Paso Da Vinci 6-10-1, Las Cruces Centennial 4-2, Hobbs 2-9, El Paso Vista (?), and the host Carlsbad Cavemen 5-4. (Posted records are as of Wednesday, March 19)

Carlsbad Invitational Schedule of Events

The six teams in this year’s Classic will compete in two pools. Pool play will be held on Thursday and Friday, March 20-21. On Saturday, March 22, the final round of play will take place, with the pools competing against each other. Teams will be matched up for competition according to their pool play records.

Following are the scheduled Carlsbad Classic matchups.

Pool A: Carlsbad, Las Cruces, El Paso Da Vinci; Pool B: Centennial, Hobbs, El Paso Vista.

Pool Play Schedules: Thursday, March 20, Game 1. Hobbs vs. Centennial, Game 2. Las Cruces vs. DaVinci, Game 3. Carlsbad vs. DaVinci; Friday, March 21; Game 4. Hobbs vs. Vista at 11:30 a.m., Game 5. Centennial vs. Vista at 2:30 p.m., Game 6. Carlsbad vs. Las Cruces at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 22: Game 7 at 11:30 a.m. third-place team Pool A vs. third-place team Pool B; Game 8 at 2:30 p.m. second-place team Pool A vs. second-place team Pool B; Game 9 at 5:30 p.m. first-place team Pool A vs. first-place team Pool B.
