Nearly 175 community leaders, business professionals, elected officials, family members, and friends gathered recently as Lakeview Christian Home to honor CEO Jody Knox for 50 years of faithful service to the organization and the residents she has dedicated her life to serving.

The elegant evening brought together representatives from throughout southeastern New Mexico, including State Representative Catherine Brown, Eddy County officials, members of the Carlsbad City Council and the Mayor’s Office, along with executives from area banks, Chamber of Commerce members, Rotary Club members, Carlsbad Department of Development representatives, and business leaders who have worked alongside Knox over the decades.

Beautiful décor transformed the venue into a glamorous setting, creating a fitting backdrop for an evening of gratitude, reflection, and celebration.

One of the evening’s most touching surprises for Jody came when attorney Chuck Gonzales traveled from Austin, TX, to pay tribute to Knox. Gonzales, who worked with her for many years through the New Mexico Health Care Association, shared memories of her leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence. His unexpected appearance delighted Knox, who had not seen him in many years.

Additional tributes were shared by Mark Schinnerer, former CEO of CARC, Inc., who worked alongside Jody for many years as her Administrator at Lakeview, and Jason Wyatt, President of Western Commerce Bank. Wyatt reflected on the longstanding relationship between Lakeview Christian Home and his grandfather, Don Kidd, whose partnership with Knox helped finance many of Lakeview’s growth and expansion projects.

Concluding the tributes was longtime board member Tim Deines, who traveled from Fredericksburg, TX, to attend the celebration. Having served on Lakeview Christian Home’s Board of Directors for more than 30 years, Deines expressed heartfelt gratitude for Knox’s steadfast leadership, unwavering integrity, and servant’s heart. He credited her vision and dedication with helping shape Lakeview Christian Home into one of the region’s most respected senior care organizations.

Perhaps the evening’s most emotional moment came with the premiere of People Worth Caring About, a moving documentary produced by acclaimed filmmaker Peter Lewis. The film highlighted the compassionate care provided each day at Lakeview Christian Home through the lives of Knox and two dedicated staff members. It captured the heart of Lakeview’s mission and left few dry eyes in the audience.

Following the film, Mayor Pro-Tem J.J. Chaves presented Knox with the official City proclamation declaring July 23 as “Jody Knox Day.” Chaves shared that his mother-in-law was preparing to enter Lakeview’s long-term care the following week and admitted he had been apprehensive. After watching the documentary, however, he said he had complete confidence she would receive exceptional care and compassion at Lakeview.

Alan Wood, President of Lakeview Christian Home’s Board of Directors, presented Knox with an engraved crystal vase commemorating her remarkable five decades of leadership, vision, and service. He thanked her for the countless lives she has touched and for building an organization that has become one of the region’s most respected providers of senior care.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt toast led by Knox’s sister, Jeanne Watson, who invited guests to stand, raise a glass, and celebrate not only an extraordinary career, but a life devoted to serving others.

Visibly humbled by the outpouring of appreciation, Knox thanked those in attendance for their friendships, encouragement, and support throughout her remarkable 50-year journey.

While the celebration honored an extraordinary career milestone, it ultimately celebrated something even greater—a legacy of compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment that has shaped Lakeview Christian Home and touched generations of families throughout southeastern New Mexico.
