Cavemen Club the Alamogordo Tigers 30-25

The Carlsbad Cavemen pushed their seasonal record up to 5-3 and District 3/6A mark up to 3-1 with a 30-25 victory over the Alamogordo Tigers in Alamogordo on Friday night, October 10.

Led offensively by quarterback Marley Munoz, running back Brock Wright, and wide receiver Robert Castaneda, the Cavemen collected 468 total yards to the Tigers’ 276.

The victory marked the third straight time the Cavemen have gained over 450 total yards.

En route to the win, Munoz hit 16 of 27 pass attempts for 279 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 16 times for 83 yards.

Wright, on 17 carries, rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while Castaneda recorded nine catches for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

Trailing 13-7 after first-quarter play and 19-16 at the half, Carlsbad rallied to outscore Alamogordo 14-6 over the final two periods to register the 30-25 win.

Leading CHS’s defensive effort were Colton McKibben, with five solo tackles and five assists; Connor Roberson, with two solo tackles, three assists, two tackles for losses, and a sack; and Zayland Pesante, with one solo tackle, one assist, one tackle for loss, and a sack. Rio Sanchez, also with a big night on the turf, picked off a Tiger pass for an interception.

The Cavemen, idle this week, will use their open week for a lot of rest and recuperation. They’ll take the field once again on Friday, October 24, in Carlsbad against the state’s top ranked Las Cruces Bulldawgs.
