Cavemen Clinch District 4/5A Title

Led by Carlsbad hurler Jonas Molinar’s shut-out performance, the Class 5A, fourth-ranked Carlsbad Cavemen knocked the Hobbs Eagles 6-0 in Hobbs on Tuesday, April 29.

Molinar, on the mound for all seven innings, allowed the Eagles just four hits. He walked just one and struck out seven in recording the shut-out.

With the victory, CHS collected the 2025 District 4/5A title. The Cavemen are now 5-0 in conference play, three full games ahead of the Eagles, with only one game remaining on their district schedule.

With runners on base, a Wade Cozart double drove in two runs for Carlsbad in the opening frame of play. CHS added four more runs over the final six innings to down the Eagles.

Carlsbad, 20-5 on the year, banged out seven hits in picking up the win. Eloy Lopez, with a 2-4 performance at the plate, led the CHS offensive effort. Also picking up hits were Jonas Molinar, Garrett Fuentes, Gus Risher, Wade Cozart, and Connor Roberson.

Cavemen Kayo Coyotes 7-1

Carlsbad got great hitting and pitching to upend the Roswell Coyotes in the Alien City on Friday, April 25.

CHS collected 12 hits in their matchup with the Otes, with three batsmen, Garrett Fuentes, Aden Quintela, and Jaden Carter, going yard.

Quintela led all Cavemen at the plate. The CHS hurler went 3-4 on the afternoon. Also picking up multiple hits were Eloy Lopez, Garrett Fuentes, and Tanner Collins. Each had two hits. Fuentes also recorded 3 RBIs.

Quintela, on the mound for the win, allowed Roswell just one earned run on five hits. He had one walk and nine strikeouts.

The Cavemen’s win pushed their District 4/5A record to 4-0. On the year, they’re 19-5.
