Cavemen, Cavegirls Split with Clovis Wildcats

The Cavemen tennis team opened up District 4/5A play by rolling over the Clovis Wildcats, 8-1, in Clovis on Tuesday afternoon, April 14.

CHS’s boys, as the score indicates, dominated the Wildcats throughout the match.

“Our boys’ team looked really strong. We expected them to be tough at Clovis, and that’s exactly what they were,” said CHS assistant coach Diamond Morrill.

“Although losing his singles match (2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-10), we were still impressed by the play of Grayson Reed,” said Morrill. “Grayson, only an eighth grader and playing in our number six spot, has really stepped up big for us this year in both singles and doubles play.

“He still has a lot more learning to do, but he’s definitely on the right track to become a great Caveman,” added the coach. “Also, although he lost in singles play, he teamed up with Josh Cooper to win his doubles match.”

The Cavegirls, unfortunately, had a rough day in Clovis, dropping all nine of their matches.

“As this was our first district dual of the season, our girls were pretty nervous,” said Morrill. “But, considering the high winds, they played in and the nervousness they had to deal with, they played fairly well.”

The Cavemen and Cavegirls will take to the court again on Friday, April 17, in Carlsbad when they square off against the Roswell Coyotes. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
