On Tuesday, April 22, in Carlsbad, the Cavemen and Cavegirl tennis teams faced off against the Hobbs Eagles for the District 4/5A team championship.

Although they played hard, both the Cavemen and the Cavegirls lost. The Carlsbad boys fell 0-9 to the Eagles, while the girls lost 3-6. As a result, CHS’s teams closed out the 2025 regular season as the District 4/5A runner-up.

Picking up victories for the Cavegirls in singles play were Sara Jones, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4; Charise Young, 6-1, 6-3; and Myka Char, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.

“The competition was tough throughout the whole ladder,” said CHS assistant coach Diamond Morrill. “Even though we lost in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions, I was very pleased with their play. Our kids played well in every match, but Hobbs was just a little bit more consistent.”

On Friday, May 2, the Cavemen and Cavegirls will travel to Roswell to compete in the District 4/5A Tournament. At stake for CHS are trips to the state tournament’s Big Dance in Albuquerque in either singles or doubles play. The tournament will run May 7-10.
