The Cavemen, in their most impressive performance of the year, dominated the Clovis Wildcats 41-28 in Carlsbad on Friday night, September 26.

The victory put CHS even on the season, for the third time this year, at 3-3. In District 3/6A play they’re sitting at 1-1.

Now, with only four games remaining on their 2025 schedule, each game becomes increasingly more important.

Whether or not Carlsbad High finishes out the year in the running for a conference title, or earns a berth in this year’s state playoffs, will be determined by how well they march through the final four games of the season.

For the Cavemen, that march begins on Saturday afternoon, October 4, against the 2-4 Organ Mt. Knights, in Las Cruces. Kickoff time is set for 1 p.m.

After a somewhat shakey start in 2025, the Cavemen appear to be making noise on both the District 3/6A and state playoff stage. Following their 41-28 win over Clovis, MaxPreps has ranked them tenth in Class 6A football.

But, with 11th ranked Alamogordo, 2nd ranked Las Cruces and 6th ranked Hobbs still ahead, the road to a conference title, and trp to state, will become only more difficult for CHS.

Due to that schedule, Saturday’s game against Organ Mountain, ranked 20th this week by MaxPreps, couldn’t be bigger for the Cavemen.

En route to Organ Mountain’s 2-4 start, the Organ Mt. Knights have defeated Deming 26-22, and Mayfield 35-28. Their losses have come via Eldorado 56-28, St. Pius 28-21, Alamogordo 34-14, and most recently Las Cruces 55-0. Cavemen 41, Clovis 28

On Friday, Sept. 26, the Cavemen rolled over the Clovis Wildcats 41-28. On the night Carlsbad gathered in 455 of total yards of offense, 198 via the air and 257 on the ground.

Caveman running back Brock Wright ran for 157 of those yards on 22 carries. He scored 3 TD’s. Quarterback Marley Munoz also had a big game. The junior signal caller rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on 20 totes. Via the air he completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 198 yards and 2 TD’s.

Hauling in Munoz’s touchdown tosses were Jaden Harper, from 49 yards out, and Robert Castaneda from 39 yards out.

The Cavemen victory elevated their District record to 1-1. They currently share third place in conference play with Alamogordo and Hobbs.
