Cavegirls Battle Mid-Season Slump

The Cavegirls, since knocking off Lakeview, Sudan, and Goddard for three straight wins, have been in a slump. Since then, they've dropped four of their last five.

Most recently, Carlsbad's girls lost to Centennial, 45-27, and snuck by Organ Mt., 38-37, before dropping a heartbreaker to Lovington on Tuesday, January 13, 55-50 in overtime.

But despite the heartbreak, the Cavegirls haven't given up. With scoring numbers up, Carlsbad's girls have every reason to be optimistic about their future in 2025-26.

"We have a lot of girls who can score. Unfortunately, for us, the ball just hasn't been falling in," said Cavegirl head coach Matt Enloe. "But we've shot much better the past few games. So, we feel we're not far away from getting back on track.

"Last year, we had a great crop of experienced seniors. This year, we're much younger, and the kids we have have been asked to do a lot," he said. "Because we are much younger and less experienced, we're going to have some ups and downs. So, we just have to be patient and keep working hard. The biggest part of our season is still ahead, so we do have a lot to keep working for."
