On December 19 in Carlsbad, the Cavegirl basketball team sustained a tough 45-35 loss to the Artesia Bulldogs.

That was the bad news. The good news is that Cavegirl head coach Matt Enloe and his charges will get another shot at their up-the-road adversary on Tuesday night, January 6, in the City of Champions.

Tipoff for the clash is set for 5:30 p.m. The JVs will open the night's action at 4 p.m.

The Cavegirls fell behind Artesia early in their 45-35 loss to the Bulldogs. Outscored 10-6 after the first eight minutes of play and 18-10 following the second, Carlsbad trailed Artesia 28-16 at the halftime break.

CHS rallied to outpoint the Dogs during the second half, 19-17, but they couldn't overcome Artesia's 12-point halftime lead.

Pacing Carlsbad's offensive effort was Serena Carrasco. The Cavegirl senior hit two three-pointers and made good on six of eight free throw attempts for 12 points. Also scoring in double digits was freshman center Serenity Medrano with 11.

Others scoring for CHS were Hayden Brose with four, Thalia Payanes and Val Veloz- each with three, and Juliette Licon with two. The Cavegirls shot just 52 percent from the charity line, making good on just 11 of 21 free throw attempts.

With the loss, the Cavegirls fell to 7-5 on the season. Currently, among Class 5A cage teams, they're ranked 18th.
