The Carlsbad Cavegirls placed seventh at the Class 5A State Golf Tournament in Farmington on Monday and Tuesday, May 12-13.

“The course in Farmington was really tough for us. Our kids are used to playing on level courses; the San Juan Country Club course is anything but level,” said CHS head golf coach Bryan Jones. “But our girls battled both days. Our staff couldn’t have been more proud of them.”

Looking over CHS’s scorecards, Lindsey Carter and Haddi May carded identical 196s to place tied for 22nd. Averee Padilla fired a 215 to finish 38th, Hailey Carter registered a 223 to place 42nd, and Cecilia Mascarenas carded a 244 to finish 47th.

Although CHS placed seventh at the meet, their appearance at the Big Dance was a great investment in the future of Cavegirl golf.

With only one senior competing at state, Lindsey Carter, sophomores Averee Padilla and Hailey Carter and freshmen Haddi May and Cecilia Mascarenas, will in all probability, be back.

“We’ll be losing Lindsey to graduation, and for us, it will be a big loss,” said Jones. “Lindsey has been much more than just a good golfer for us; more importantly, she’s been a great leader. We’re going to miss her a lot.”

With four of this year’s linksters returning in 2026, the Cavegirl prospects for three-peating as District 4/5A Champs and returning to the state tournament appear to be very good.

Scoreboard:

Cavegirls: T22, Lindsey Carter, 196; T22, Haddi May, 196; 38, Averee Padilla, 215; 42, Hailey Carter, 223; 47, Cecilia Mascarenas, 244.

Team: Carlsbad seventh, 830
