The Carlsbad Cavegirl volleyball team, on a high following a 3-1 victory over the league-leading Hobbs Eagles, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Clovis Wildcats in Clovis on Tuesday night, October 28.

Carlsbad, off to a great start, won the first two sets of the match, 25-20, 25-26, but couldn’t put the Wildcats away. They lost the last three sets 22-25, 24-26, and 9-15.

The loss dropped the Cavegirls to 5-15 on the year and 1-3 in District 4/5A. Clovis, with the win, upped their seasonal mark to 10-10 and 3-1 in league play.

Carlsbad was scheduled to take on the Roswell Coyotes in the Cavern City on Thursday night, October 30. They’ll close out regular season play in Hobbs on Thursday, November 6, in Hobbs.

Although dropping another tough one to Clovis, the Cavegirls could still be very much in this year’s state playoff picture should they win out and get a little help from their friends.

The Class 5A state volleyball tournament will get underway in Albuquerque on November 13-15. The NMAA selection committee will be seeding 12 teams to compete in this year’s state tournament on Sunday, November 9.
