Angee's Atelier

Angee’s Atelier By Angee Lamberth The floral industry is currently experiencing an unprecedented shortage of flowers and the greatest supply and demand imbalance in decades. What caused this shortage?●Covid 19--Covid forced farmers to shut down their operations during the lockdown and pull out crops as they didn’t have the staff to keep them going. They are now playing catch up...and that takes time.●Extreme Weather--Growing regions are experiencing extreme weather, like drought and storms all over the world, slowing down the growing process, or rendering many of the crops unusable.●Demand has Skyrocketed--During the Pandemic, people turned to flowers to send to loved ones they couldn’t see in person, as well as used them in their own homes to brighten up quarantine spaces. In addition, as states opened back up, weddings and events have returned in full force, with 2 years of weddings happening in one. The supply has not yet been able to catch up to this sheer volume of events happening.●Costs have Risen--Other products and industries have experienced rising costs as well, which affects the floral industry. Most notably transportation costs, with delivery rates at a premium and drivers in high demand. What does all this mean for Carlsbad? A flower shortage doesn’t mean there are no flowers! We carry a large assortment of fresh flowers every week, including roses in every color, seasonal blooms and foliages, and a beautiful assortment of green plants. We encourage you to order ahead if at all possible, especially for weddings, holiday parties and events. The chrysanthemum, recalls the vibrant colors of autumn leaves. Also known as “mums,” chrysanthemums can be seen in all sorts of autumn decor. The word, “chrysanthemum,” comes from the Greek prefix chrys-meaning golden and -anthemion, meaning flower. Its original colors were golden hues, though mums now come in many colors—orange, burgundy, purple, red, and so on! Thank you for supporting Small Business. We look forward to serving you through the Holiday season and we hope to see you soon
