Tonight, at Ralph Bowyer Cavemen Stadium, the Cavemen (2-4) will square off against the 2nd ranked Centennial Hawks (5-1). Kickoff for the District 3/4A game is set for 7 p.m. Tonight's clash will be the second conference game of the year for both Carlsbad and Centennial.Currently Carlsbad sits at 0-1 and tied for fourth place with the Organ Mt. Knights in conference play, following last week's 42-13 loss to the Las Cruces Bulldawgs. Centennial, who downed Organ Mt. 52-14 in their district opener, shares the league's top spot with the Bulldawgs. The Cavemen have undoubtedly participated in what has proven to be one of the state's toughest schedules this year.Carlsbad's victories have come over the Class 5A 4th ranked Artesia Bulldogs and the El Paso Coronado Thunderbirds. Losses have come via the 5A's 3rd ranked Goddard Rockets, 5thranked Roswell Coyotes and theClass 6A's top ranked Rio Rancho Rams and 6th ranked Las Cruces Bulldawgs.Strength of schedule continues to be a factor in this week's Maxpreps rankings for the Cavemen, who have once again, been listed among the state's top ten 6A teams.Only three games remain on this year's schedule though for the Cavemen to finish strong in conference play and to earn a berth in the 2021 state playoffs. That means that each game will be a big one!Besides tonight's collision with the Hawks Carlsbad will entertainthe Organ Mt. Knights on Oct. 22 and then, on Oct. 29, they'll close out conference play, on the road, when they take on the HobbsEagles.Go Cavemen! In other conference games tonight the 7th ranked Hobbs Eagles opens up district play with the Las Cruces Bulldawgs and the 13th ranked Organ Mt.
