Justin Wayne Lackey

Justin Wayne Lackey
July 25, 1989 ~ March 13, 2021
Justin Wayne Lackey, 31, of Utah Street, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 in a vehicle accident,
which left his family and friends heartbroken. This world was blessed with his presence on July 25, 1989
when Justin was born to Jason and Shelly (Bryant) Lackey in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He attended school
in his hometown and was honored as a graduate from Faith Christian Academy. While this loss is
devastating, the knowledge that Justin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and is now in his
heavenly home brings comfort.
Justin was very kindhearted with a warm smile and laugh that people could relate to. He never met a
stranger. He was gifted with a sense of humor that could easily bring a person up when they were down.
He was a hard worker and was always willing to help others. With a thankful and loving spirit, he took
care in creating and maintaining strong relationships with those that he met through all generations. His
grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephew, cousins and close friends knew they
could depend on Justin. It was not unusual to see Justin stopping by for a visit, helping on the ranch, home
or pet sitting, running errands, or helping friends and family move or to complete projects. Justin was an
avid hunter and an NRA member. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, riding ATVs, and motocross, along
with playing games or watching movies with his siblings or his cousins. If a barbeque was going on, he
was there! He often shared recipes or photos of his masterpieces that he created with loved ones. His baby
brother, Jeremy, who he lovingly called “Peanut”, was his pride and joy and he loved spending time with
him.
Justin is survived by his parents, Jason and Shelly Lackey of Carlsbad; his sister Amy Lackey and Jeremy
Chapman of Artesia; his brothers, Austin and Jeremy Lackey of Carlsbad; his grandparents Jerry and June
Lackey and Donna Bryant of Carlsbad, uncles and aunts: Misty Cryer and Shane Moore; Crystal and
Ronnie Lucas, Ricky Bryant, David and Rhonda Bryant, Desi and Robert Bohner, Brandy Bryant
McDonald, Michael Cryer and Liberty Shirley; nieces: Ann and Isabelle; nephew: Jack; first cousins: Roy
and Brandin Cryer; Payton, Preston and Paisley Lucas; Seth, Johnnie and Jamie Bryant; Chance Stockwell;
Michelle Bohner; and Daniel, TJ and Arianna Ruiz; and extended family. He was especially close to his
second cousin, Shawn Bryant, and his fiancé Kate’lyn. He was preceded in death by his maternal
grandfather, Raymond Bryant and two cousins, Michael Bryant and Caleb Stockwell.
Visitation will be 3 PM – 6 PM, Friday, March 19, 2021 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation is
limited to 10 people in the chapel at a time and facial coverings are required. A graveside will be held at
Carlsbad Cemetery with Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating and services will be live streamed 2:00 PM
Saturday, March 20, 2021.
Pallbearers will be Austin Lackey, Jeremy Lackey, Edward Hood, Shawn Bryant, Payton Lucas, Burt
Pimbley, Shane Moore and Randy Lang. Honorary pallbearers will be Preston Lucas, Robert Bohner, Mike
McFarland, Ronnie Lucas and Michael Cryer. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
