James Floyd Purcell, 93, passed away July 29, in Lubbock. Floyd was born in Pear Valley, Texas August 8, 1926 to Samuel and Olive Purcell. Floyd attended school in Lohn, Texas and served in the Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He moved to Carlsbad in 1948 to work in the potash mines. While in Carlsbad, he met Marjorie Yourasovich and they married in 949. Floyd retired in 1986 after 38 years of service. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Conley Purcell, Leroy Purcell; cousin, Lee Voigt.
Survivors are his wife, Marjorie Purcell; children: Sherri Lynn Alverson (Don), Craig Floyd Purcell; grandchildren: James Ryan Alverson (Kathy), Ashley Marie Alverson Green (Chad); 5 great-grandchildren: Jillian, Tucker, Elliot, Will and Maggie; sister, Dorothy Varner; cousins: Trish Voigt Towery, Zolene Voigt Knott; several nieces, nephews and dear friends: The Nichols, Greer and Bryant families.
