Nesbit/Majerus are muni 'Partnership Champions'By Don EskinsBob Nesbit and John Majerus are Lake Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course's September Partnership Tournament Champions after posting a tournament low seven under par 65 in First Flight play on Saturday September 26.Collecting the victory wasn't an easy task for the two local golfers though. Nesbit and Majerus had to hold off strong performances by Jacob Howard and Dan Emch who finished second, just one stroke behind, at 66. Just two strokesback at 67 were Mario Carrasco and Steve Hendley,who finished third. The tournament used a select drive format and hosted twenty-two two man teams."This turned out to be a great tournament. Seems like just about everybody had an opportunity to win this one," said muni golf spokesman J.W. Sutphin. "Only three strokes separated the top five First Flight teams. Tim Robertson and Jerry Garcia, along with the team of Matt Castro and Dyllan Dominguez, tied for the fourth spot at 68."Other flight winners were: Flight No. 2: Bruce Jeffress/Rick Eggleston 69; Flight No. 3: Robert Garcia/Karv Haug 71 and Flight No. 4: Thomas Duran/Zack Mendez 71.Closest to the pin winners at the tournament were: Hole #3-Bubba Backues; #7-Bo Blackwood; #11-Jesus Alvarez;and #16-Jacob Howard. Winners picked up $70.00 each for their tournament best shots."Our September Partnership tournament went really well," said Lake Carlsbad Municipal Golf Course pro Eric Chavez. "It's been really nice to have had a few events likethis one here at the muni since all of the COVID-19 restrictions went into effect. Our local golfers, as well as the staff here at the municipal course, seemed to have really enjoyed them.
