David “Jack” Oliver

September 15, 1924 ~ August 12, 2020



David “Jack” Oliver, 95, of Parker Street Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Jack was born on September 15, 1924, in Paw Paw, West Virginia to Walter and Helen Oliver.


Cremation has taken place, and private burial will take place at a later date. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Jack loved his family and friends, and loved spending time with them. He was known for being a jokester, and his big smile. Jack was also proud of his time serving in the U.S. Army while diploid in WWII, surviving the beaches of Normandy. He was a skilled carpenter, outgoing, and a faithful and active member of San Jose Catholic Church. Jack will be dearly missed, and never forgotten.


Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lea Oliver; father, Walter Oliver; mother, Helen Oliver; and two sisters: Betty and Doris of West Virginia.


Jack is survived by his step-daughter, Carol Lea Sheets of Niles, OH; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nephew, John D. Westfall and wife, Brenda of Carlsbad, NM; nephew, Donald Boyd of Carlsbad, NM; nephew, Richard Boyd and Phillip Smead of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
